Denmark is one of the worst places in the world to be a car lover. The taxes for owning a vehicle are among the highest in the world and the new Social Democrat-led coalition government is talking about increasing them even more.
The official line against motor vehicles in this environmentally-friendly land is not enough to stop the true lover of speed and the smell of petrol, though. You will often see motoring enthusiasts out and about during the summer months in Denmark, proudly driving souped-up American muscle cars, British sports cars and vintage Volvos. It is these long-suffering car lovers that the Top Gear Live show is hoping to bring together in a celebration of the fast, loud and petrol-fuelled.
Top Gear Live – A Worldwide Phenomenon
BBC’s Top Gear is the most famous motoring show on the planet. With its line-up of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, it is dedicated to fast cars, outrageous stunts and the legendary British sense of humour.
Top Gear has taken its show on the road, staging live events in Britain, Russia, Norway, and Australia in 2011. The show has been described as ’60 minutes of edge-of-your-seat action featuring a cast of supercars and enough pyrotechnics to blow the roof off.’ Top Gear Live features a full-size indoor track, a high speed moped ‘chariot’ race and a supercar parade. The mysterious race car driver known as ‘The Stig’ joins the action on the indoor track, driving some of the fastest cars in the world.
The Top Gear Live exhibition includes a replica of the world famous Top Gear television studio, including the ‘Cool Wall’ and a selection of some of the cars featured on the show.
Putting on the Top Gear Live show requires the services of 135 trucks, 3 ships, 1 cargo plane, 94 cars and 150 sets of tyres. It has been seen by 1.2 million people worldwide so far. Besides Copenhagen, Top Gear Live will be visiting Moscow and Perth in 2012.
Top Gear Live – Copenhagen 2012
Top Gear Live invades car-unfriendly Denmark in 2012, in a series of six shows running from 29 March to 1 April at the Forum in Copenhagen. Fresh from the latest scandal involving his own ill-advised brand of free speech where he appeared to advocate the death penalty for striking public sector workers, Jeremy Clarkson joins James May and The Stig for its infamous ‘Carmageddon’ show.
Danish fans will be treated to nail-biting stunts, risky runnings, and supercars, all laced with the much-admired British sense of humour. In addition to regular tickets, dedicated fans of Top Gear can purchase a platinum ticket which allows them to visit backstage and get close enough to touch some of the cars involved.
Tickets for Top Gear Live went on sale in November 2011 can be purchased through Billetlugen.dk starting at 400 kroner.
Top Gear Live promises to cheer up car-loving Danes with more car action than they ever thought possible. For one hour, they can forget the taxes they are paying on their vehicles and enjoy a spectacle of which their government would surely disapprove.
